Stuck for hen party fancy dress themes?
We round up eight of our favourite themes and the all-important info on how to recreate the look.
1. The Great Gatsby
Our nation’s love with all things vintage means the success of The Great Gatsby lives on. What better decade than the 1920s is there for a hen party theme if you want to feel sophisticatedly chic with outfits full of glitz and glamour?
You could go off-the-peg and ready-to-wear with a flapper style outfit like the below.
Personally, we feel it’s too much of a stylish look not to use the hen party as an excuse to collect lots of lovely fashion finds! So read on for how to recreate the look from the high street.
Anything with a drop-waist, feathers, fringes or art deco embellishments will work. We love this dress from Rock My Vintage (which has plenty of other Gatsby-esque fashion finds on their website too), which is currently £84.
Art deco bling or feather headbands complete the look and we found an almost identical headpiece to that worn in The Great Gatsby movie on ebay for just under £6!
T-bar heels are a must and if they are metallic or have art deco details on them, all the better! These heels by the Head Over Heels Range by Dune are available currently at Debenhams and House of Fraser for just £25. What’s even better is they are definitely wearable again.
Complete your Great Gatsby theme with beaded or feather bags. And after the hen party is over they can double up for the wedding!
We just LOVE what one of our hen parties did when they went with this cleaners and maids theme.
You can go funny a frumpy old cleaner (with talc to grey the hair, an old lady’s dress from a charity shop and a large stuffed bra hanging saggy suitable low!), sexy as a French maid, or even modern-day cleaner sexy with some hot-pants accessorised with an apron and marigolds.
3. Disney Princesses
If you’ve got a bride that insists on looking like a princess on her wedding day, why not carry on the theme with a Disney princess themed hen party?
The best part about this fancy dress theme is that there are tonnes of affordable fancy dress from places like ebay and online fancy dress stores, many for under £15.
Because obviously you are all celibate until married…
5. Pop Divas
The opportunities are endless with this theme. Go for legendary divas like Madonna, Tina Turner and Dolly Parton, or dress like modern day icons such as Lady GaGa, Beyonce, Nicki Minaj and Katy Perry. The list is endless.
A great resource if you want a more modern day pop diva them is www.stealherstlye.net.

If you’ve got it then flaunt it like Nicki Minaj. Team a figure-hugging bodycon dress with killer dress and the all-important accessory for this look: padded pants. (Unless you work it in the gym like Jen Selter.)
Steal Her Style shows you exactly how to recreate her look:
7. Vintage ’50s fancy dress
Perhaps one of THE most popular fancy dress themes for hens seems to be a vintage ’50s look, like one of our hen groups below:
Why get a fancy dress costume when you can get these affordable ’50s outfits from Lindy Bop?
Lots of hen parties tend to opt for a vintage makeover and photoshoot to complete the look but if you prefer a DIY approach for the hair and make-up we’ve found this great video here:
8. Carnival Style
Each summer Liverpool holds its very own carnival festival, Brazilica. It makes for a great hen party theme!
